The K9 Odyssey Academy

The K9 Odyssey Academy's goal is to create a positive and effective learning experience for dogs and their guardians/those who love and care for them; let us support you on your odyssey through education and training.

Odyssey’s foundation is based on the love and compassion for dogs; we believe that humans/guardians need training to set realistic expectations, and then consistently teach and learn from our dogs. Our training theory and methods reflect this belief. In today’s digital world, there is so much information, so many terms and catchphrases that discerning and understanding training may be confusing when trying to find the best fit for you and your dog’s needs. Odyssey believes that everyone and every dog is unique and do not fit a mold or one training theory camp such as Purely Positive/ Force-Free/ R+/Positive Reinforcement/ Balanced/Scientific/ Behavioral Modification.

We at Odyssey will assess and train every dog based on what will help us achieve our set goals (Train the Dog in Front of You (Fenzi)). We implement and teach the use of tools to help guardians effectively guide their dogs in the human world with care and confidence. Our toolbox includes flat collars, martingale collars, harnesses, slip collars/leads, pinch collars, prong collars, and e-collars and we will determine what tool based on effectiveness and the guardian's approval; our job is to facilitate learning for both the humans and the dogs, and we will strive to educate and implement what is best for everyone.

"If You Allow Them To Shenan, They Will Definitely Shenanigan"

To see consistent results in your training and relationship building, you need to consistently hold yourself to a standard of accountability.

Dogs don't speak fluent English so in order for them to learn they need you to say what you mean (command), show them (guide, capture, or lure), and acknowledge them when they "get it" (treat or praise); by doing this process over and over and you will be on your way to raising a well-trained, life-long companion.

If you do not follow through consistently and ignore opportunities to develop, you will be setting yourself and your dog up for unnecessary setbacks and struggles, while engraining those ignored behaviors (shenanigans).

Think of a record; the grooves are the behaviors, and the more you play a record the deeper the grooves become. When we consistently address both desirable and undesirable behaviors, we are letting our dogs know which behaviors are good and which behaviors are deemed "shenanigans" and unacceptable.
